In conjunction with Kent and Medway Councils, Kent Housing Group and the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA), we have established a Kent and Medway wide domestic abuse reciprocal scheme for social housing.
The managed reciprocal scheme would enable individuals and families at risk of domestic abuse and who have a social tenancy, to move to a safe area whilst retaining their social housing tenancy.
This scheme is a formal collaboration between social housing landlords which will be coordinated by an independent agency (KCC, Domestic Abuse Coordinator). It also links and supports the wider Kent & Medway domestic abuse strategy.
This project is in existence in London through the Safer London Scheme and has seen numerous benefits including:
- Increased housing options for survivors
- Reduced burden on homelessness departments
- Provides a supportive framework to both survivors and social landlords
- Makes the best use of social housing stock
- Is a collective sector approach to domestic abuse
A project group representing several social landlords across Kent have been working together to create a domestic abuse reciprocal scheme tailored to the needs of Kent and Medway.
This scheme will be launched at our webinar on the 3rd April where we will discuss in detail the scheme, how it will operate and the benefits it will have to your organisation and survivors of domestic abuse.
If you or a representative wish to attend the webinar please confirm directly to Lisa Clarke (Lisa.Clarke@clarionhg.com) and she will send you an invitation.
