Theresa May Promises New Council Housing, with 2bn for Affordable Housing

At the Conservative Conference Theresa May has delivered her closing speech and pledged new council housing.

In the speech was the announcement of another £10bn for Help to Buy and an additonal £2bn for affordable housing, taking the budget to over £9bn.

Mrs May commented that housing will be provided “where need is greatest”, new homes for social rent at below market rates, “getting government back into the business of building houses”.  She added that it is her mission to solve this problem and she will take personal charge.   She also told developers that government will make the land available and they must build the homes people need.
