Secretary of State Work & Pensions Meets Housing, Health & Social Care Colleagues

On Friday 30th September Rt Hon Damian Green, the Secretary of State Work & Pensions met with Housing Health and Social Care colleagues at the flagship Ashford BC Farrow Court, to talk about the future delivery and funding for supported housing.

This meeting was set up in response to the National Housing Federations Starts at Home campaign that was launched on 1st September 2016.  A campaign to highlight the true positive impact and importance of supported housing for all those vulnerable clients who require access to this type of accommodation and linked services.

Mr Green was receptive of the concerns around uncertainty of viability of schemes being delivered going forward in light of reduced income with the 1% rent reduction; and how residents of such accommodation could afford to cover the housing costs with recent announcements about the housing benefit and Local Housing Allowance Caps.

Colleagues committed to work with Mr Green and his Government colleagues to provide positive solutions to ensure that the future supply of supported accommodation is not negatively impacted by Government reforms.
