Following the successful cross-sector strategic conversation in July 2026, Kent Housing Group and East Kent Colleges Group are bringing operational leads together to build a clearer, shared understanding of the opportunities available for adults and young people to develop skills, access employment support and progress in work.
The workshop will focus at borough and district level, exploring what is already happening in each area, strengthening partner connections and referral routes, and identifying what more is needed to help local people upskill, move into work and progress in their careers.
Who should attend
Whilst strategic leaders are welcome, we would like team leaders and those that have some decision-making responsibilities to participate in the practical workshop, build networks and solutions for local people. Organisations can include:
• Local Authorities – economic development, housing (tenancy sustainment, supported housing and homelessness teams)
• Housing Associations
• Supported Housing providers
• DWP and employment support organisations (Connect to Work, Restart etc)
• Education Providers (KCC Adult Ed, EKC Training and local providers via KATO)
• Community and Voluntary Sector organisations working in these sectors
• Health colleagues (Marmot Coastal, Public Health, Health Alliances etc)
• Anyone else with an interest or a related service that wants to link to others
Why should I attend?
It will provide you with new contacts and a greater awareness of the support and services out there for local residents and tenants.
It will support tenants find and secure work or upskill for career progression, providing greater surety of tenancy and improvements in health and economic wellbeing for them and their families.
What we will explore
• What services and projects are available in the local authority area
• What referral routes are available (Refer Kent, Joy, Huume) and how can these be strengthened
• What is missing or could be co-designed by partners for the area to support more people gain skills and access employment
• Where could employment and skills support be delivered to better meet the needs of tenants
The event will be held at Canterbury College, New Dover Road, Canterbury, CT2 3AJ
