What is Affordable Housing?

The Government believes everyone should have the opportunity of a decent home, which they can afford, within a sustainable mixed community. Provision of housing should meet the needs of the whole community, including those whose needs are not met by the housing market, and should include a good balance of housing types and tenures.

Affordable housing includes social rented housing and intermediate housing (eg shared equity) provided for households whose needs are not met by the housing market. The Government also supports some households (eg key workers, social tenants) in their aspirations to buy a home by providing shared equity homes. Affordable homes are provided at sub-market prices, and restricted to specified types of household.

The Kent Agreement Two

The Kent Agreement is an agreement between central government and local authorities in Kent and their partners to improve services in Kent and improve the quality of life in Kent. As such it is the shorter term and more focussed three year delivery programme which takes forward the broader and longer term aspirations within the Vision for Kent. Kent Agreement 2 is the second agreement to help partners focus their collective effort during the period 2008 - 2011.

KHG is the responsible body for managing performance against one of the KA2 Indicators, NI 155 - Delivery of Affordable Homes (Gross).
